Let on your head - a permanent exposition of OVM [ Stationary exhibition ]
The only museum specializing on hats and headgears in the Czech republic and one of few in Europe is District museum relating to nature and history in Nový Jičín. Further to local more than 200years tradition of hat production the museum created, administes and further extends the biggest collection of historical hats and headgears. After difficult and extensive reconstruction of the part of Žerotín Castle made the museum of Nový Jičín accessible on the 8th December 2000 by new permanent exposition of hats and headgears with the name "Let on your head". In the exhibition visitors can see about 600 hats, caps, bonnets and helmets from the period from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day. Most of exhibits is a part of own extensive and unique collection. Among the shown exhibits there are also unique headgears, on many occasions for the first time introduced to the public. A part of the exhibition is interpreted in scenic wholes and visitors appear in the middle of thematic scenes approaching the atmosphere of the time when hats were used. The guests can look through magnificent hats and madame evening gowns in late Austro-Hungarian monarchy, look through unique army and service helmets, shakos and caps, they can let themselves fascinate by elegance of bridegroom and atractiveness of bride in the wedding scene from the 1920's, hat shop or primorepublic confectionery. The original hat workshop with pattern cards, forms and other equipment will open its doors. We can_t forget the showcases with collection of headgears of important personalities of the Czech culture and policy - for example a hat of the first president Tomáš Garique Masaryk is here, "Father of his Nature" František Palacký, successor to the throne Frantiek Ferdinand d'Este next to the hats of Jan Neruda, Petr Bezruč and the other. Amont the hats of the production of the firm Tonak of the last decade is also a hat of the wife of president of the Czech republic Dagmar Havlová. A small atraction of the exhibit is period photographic studio in which visitors can make a photo in own or borrowed hat.
